Situated some 6 miles from the east coast,
Leven is a thriving village in the heart of East Yorkshire
with about 1300+ homes.
Up until the opening of the A165 by-pass, the
village suffered from heavy through traffic heading for the holiday
resorts of the east coast, including Hornsea, Bridlington, Filey &
Scarborough. Now the village is much quieter and much safer, but still
suffers from the occasional groups of 'boy racers' with go-faster
stripes.
Leven has a
steadily expanding community, and a good variety of
businesses catering for the everyday needs of the
community, including a post office, pharmacy and
surgery, with numerous clubs and associations
covering the many hobbies and sporting activities
undertaken by residents and visitors alike.
There are many places of
interest around the area, with stately homes such as Wassand
Hall, Burton
Constable Hall and Burton Agnes Hall not too far away, and
places of historic interest such as Beverley Minster and Skidby Mill just on the doorstep,
or explore
500 years of history within the walls of the Napoleonic
fortress of Fort Paull only 18 miles away.
