Project Sec

or - how to keep out of the wife's way for a while

The Project
The project was to build a full size "as close as I could get" replica of the 2005 series Dalek Sec.

He is constructed primarily of fibreglass, plastic, metal and wood 'bits' built around a metal chassis.

He was built between 2006 and 2008. Originally he was all going to be a static garden piece, made of wood, but I decided if I was going to do him, i might as well make him move too, and as he became more and more cumbersome, the decision was made to start again using fibreglass.

Notes
It has been an interesting challenge, learning new skills and refreshing old ones. I had done little in the way of fibreglass work, let alone on the scale this was to be, but it turned out to be the most rewarding of the skills involved - the worst was the painting - I do not have a separate paint shop so it was difficult to keep the work dust-free while it was being finished.

I scoured the internet for months before starting, looking for pictures, diagrams and plans - whatever I could find to help me - eventually I found a set of plans - but they were for a 1970's style Dalek, and it wasn't until I had nearly finished making the thing in wood that I found a set of 2005 series plans - brill ! - Guess what - complete re-build.

(If only I had found the plans before I started could have had it done in two weeks!!)
