Village Notices - Spring 2011

SPEEDING VEHICLES

The monitoring of vehicles speeding through the village is proving very successful. Numerous motorists have been caught by the 'Speed Gun' travelling well in excess of the speed limits operating.

Please be aware that we now have a good rota of local people who, together with the Police go out on a regular basis and monitor vehicle speeds.

There is no set day of of the week or time of day when this might be taking place.

EAST STREET
Motorists, lorry drivers, council vehicles and cyclists are still exiting from East Street onto the main road opposite the Post Office. Not only is this highly dangerous, but it is also illegal.

We have contacted ERYC Highways several times over the matter and they assure us that the signage in East Street saying 'No Exit' is more than adequate, likewise we have referred the matter to the police. They are more than willing to prosecute anyone caught exiting from East Street.

The Parish Council are more than willing to contact the police if we have either a registration number together with a date and time when the incident occurred or even a phone picture together with a date and time and we will do the rest.

FLY TIPPING

For many months now we have been troubled by fly-tipping in the village. In particular on the bridleway at the south end of the village leading to the by-pass. Vast amounts of tyres are being dumped on a regular basis. Again, this is an illegal practice.

This is industrial waste and such should be disposed of by licensed operators, either into authorised sites or recycled, not dumped in our village.

Every time this happens we have to get in touch with ERYC to send out a special team to collect and take them away, and once again there is a significant cost implication to all of this, if not directly to the Parish Council then to the local authority, which we in turn have to pay for.

UNSOCIABLE BEHAVIOUR

The Parish Council and the Police are concerned about the problem of unsociable behaviour in the village. The illegal riding of mini-motor bikes on the streets, public footpaths and public open spaces has been reported to the Police. Also acts of vandalism and underage drinking are being dealt with by the Police Authority. The Parish Council are collating a list of all offences, the number to ring to contact the Parish Council collator is 01964 545898.

The local Police require all incidents to be reported by calling 07880 942979

Acts of unsociable behaviour must be reported as soon as possible.
