Barking Dogs |
Sue, Leven must
have quite a few barking dogs; I often hear one from the other side
of Leven usually around midnight barking and howling away and
there's one down Trinity which objects to being shut outside at
night (I wonder why?).
There are also 4
houses with dogs in the Orchard cul-de-sac, 3 of which are
intermittent but still annoying; one is a right pain, it can usually
be heard wimpering and whining from about 4am onwards (presume after
its been chucked out of the house?)
PLEASE - if you
own a dog, do NOT let it outside and then leave it to bark at any
time of the day or night - neighbours deserve peace and quiet and
not the constant headache thinking "oh that bloody dog's at it
again". Remember, the Council can serve you with a noise nuisance
order - but for Sue who doesn't know the address of the dog
bothering her, she can only hope that someone can give her the
address concerned. Good luck! Remember, If it bothers you the it
will bother other people, so REPORT IT AND STOP IT!! GOOD LUCK
PS I'm a dog
owner myself and if my dog barks more than once I go outside and
bring it in immediately (as all good owners should do) |

Leven Life - Summer Thought |
I write
this letter in disgust at the article printed in the June 2007 issue
of Leven Life, Headed Summer Thought. In the light of recent events
regarding child safety and the unfortunate society we live in, where
it is no longer deemed safe for any child to be left unattended, let
alone play in the street. It now appears that the children are no
longer permitted to play within the boundaries of their own home. As
a parent we are constantly reminded that children are to be kept
healthy and active so it beggars belief that the article placed in
the June 2007 issue about the use of children’s trampolines in
gardens should be kept well away from fences adjoining other houses.
Children bouncing and screaming and looking over at the neighbours
are an invasion of privacy, especially the elderly who seek privacy
and quiet in their garden. I would just like to add that unless you
lived in a detached house in the middle of nowhere, this is not
possible. If privacy is the issue here, and you wanted to invade
someone’s privacy you would only have to stand and look outside your
bedroom window into the garden of an adjoining property. So I appeal
to the person who wrote this letter and say could you not think back
to your childhood for one minute and relish how lucky you were to
have the freedom to roam with your friends and not have the fear of
abduction or sexual assault looming in parent’s minds. Unfortunately
we do not live in a child safe environment and it is up to us as
parents to keep them safe and let them enjoy what little childhood
they have.

Barking
Dogs |
Does anyone know who
has a dog that barks at all hours of the day and night in the South
Parade/South Carrs area please? We were woken up at 12.20 am
today with it barking for at least half an hour and then again at
6.00am. This has been happening on a regular basis for quite
some time now. I hope someone can help. Thanks - Please reply to

Village
Signs |
The brick built feature and sign that
the village has had erected on the roads leading into Leven are
very nice and the flowers are nice too but why is it that Leven has
to make do with an offensive white reflective sign, when
Brandesburton and Beeford etc all have decorative plaques???
They may as well have not bothered with a brick structure and just
stuck a pole in the ground if they always intended on such an
unattractive sign.

Rubbish
Rubbish everywhere.... |
It is nearly two
years since I last appealed to local residents not to destroy the
countryside that surrounds the village. Today I walked from the
Sports Hall over Starr Carr hill a distance of ONE mile and saw TWENTY
ONE black plastic sacks spaced evenly along the grass verge each
containing builders waste!!! What excuse have we?
Hope you all enjoy living in LEVEN TIP.

Old
Friends |
I
was there about a month ago, and met someone called Polly and her
husband – he apparently is a security driving instructor. Anyway,
Polly said she would be in contact over a job she reckoned she knew
about – her brother I think. We met in the New Inn where my mother
and I stayed for the night. We were there to meet one of her old
school friends. If
you could ask Polly to contact, I would be much obliged.

Speed
Cameras |
It's good to
see the speed cameras up and running in Leven but most people only
seem to slow down through embarrassment when the lights flash at them.
As a shift worker however, when
it's quiet, I see people just ignoring them altogether. But I
live at the other end of
Leven and would like to see something put in place on Hornsea Road.
Living on a farm we have seen many ducks and chickens killed through
speeding drivers and when turning in to our drive you have to be quick
to avoid the "airborne" drivers coming over the
hill........nothing that a GATSO wouldn't conquer. Regards
Graham.

Bruno's
Salon |
Hi there - We
received the following email this week and feel it warrants inclusion
here in the hope you can help -
"have just
heard that Bruno's is closing in 2 weeks time as his lease has expired
and the property has been sold. I understand he has tried to
obtain suitable/similar premises in the village but to date has been
unsuccessful. It would be a great shame to lose him and I feel
that surely there must be someone local who has suitable premises for
his use or that can be adapted for this purpose. Do you know of anyone
with such a property or are you able to pass the word around or are
you able to help at all on the website?
I am sure that a
large number of people in the village would miss his services, I for
one and would like to think that I have at least tried in some small
measure to assist him in finding alternative premises."

Speed
Cameras |
who's
brilliant idea was it to have speed cameras next to the mini
roundabout ? If speed cameras are necessary then some should have been
put next to Dennis Winter's where the lunatics of the village continue
their antics as though they are on the bypass. Or is this space
reserved for GATSO's ?
I
can understand that they are where they are to safeguard children, but
this village needs to keep everyone alive not just children !

Stink reply |
I'm
so fed up of people calling the tip next to the bypass Catwick tip.
Its on the same side as Leven and Brandesburton, and nearer to them!
Who gave it that name anyway? And as far as the smell is concerned you
cant smell it in Catwick, even when it was being worked.

Waste
Disposal |
Many
of our new friends and colleagues who have joined us in the village,
have yet to learn to appreciate the true value of our country lanes
and walks.
In
the days before the council provided excellent waste disposal sites we
never had a problem with tipping in hedgerows and ditches. Today
we have no excuse!!!
In
the last twelve months the situation has deteriorated dramatically.
I have seen microwave cookers, building waste (neatly packed in
plastic sacks), and some just tipped, plastic bottles, cans, foil
crisp and biscuit packets all discarded. Today someone has
released domestic fowls in a small copse. It is far less cruel
to dispose of unwanted livestock in a correct manner rather than leave
them to starve to death or wild animals to kill them.
Farmers leave the hedge bottoms untrimmed in order to provide natural
habitat for wildlife. It is not to hide your rubbish.
As you all get up in years you too will appreciate the countryside but
if this waste disposal keeps up you will all be living in a massive
rubbish tip.

Speed Cameras |
Looks like the Council has beat me to it. I was going to ask how many
people in the village thought we ought to have permanent speed cameras
at the entries to the village, end of South Street, North Street,
Hornsea Road etc. It's good to see that something is being done - not
before time too.

More Stink than we
thought... |
|
Hello Web master,
Have you ever wondered why East Riding Council the other year
built us a new bridge over the drain on Heigholme Lane? A
very unusual move for the council to spend large sums on our
country lanes!
The answer is contained in the unmarked lorries usually with a
white cab and sheeted blue trailer. The first one of the
day is often at 5 - 30 hrs. followed by numerous others
throughout the day. The contents of which is
partially processed night soil to be delivered to a farm set up
for further processing it into usable compost.
With the wind in a north by north-westerly direction we
get a smell equal to that of Catwick Tip. The
village will never be free from other peoples smells no matter
what happens at Catwick.

Let's all kick up a
Stink |
East Riding of Yorkshire Council claim they
are not getting many reports or complaints about the smell
emanating from Catwick Tip, they have also said that when they
investigated, they could smell nothing.
They should come and spend a day in the
village sometime.
We as villagers, need to let them know just
how bad the smell can be, depending on temperature and wind
direction, it can be unbearable, especially in summer. I
personally feel sorry for those residents living on Hornsea Road
area of the village, it must be even worse for them, the tip
being visible from their back doors. You only have to drive past
in the dark to see the 'smell' burning off.
A few weeks ago, the Hull Daily Mail
reported that there were no plans to extend the life of the tip,
and then more recently that the owners have applied for an
extension, they've also told us that the tip won't be used for
hazardous waste, but we're waiting...
WE NEED TO STOP THEM NOW - Ring the Environment
Agency hotline on 0113 244 0191 - MAKE YOUR VIEWS
KNOWN, COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SMELL, let's stop it before they
are granted an extension.

So you think
"High Blood Pressure" just comes with the job and the
stress of modern living. |
'But
hey, what the heck, we can ignore it and go about our business.'
These have been the last
thoughts of many men and women, before they were struck down by
"STROKE" as I was myself. Those of us who were
lucky enough to survive are often left with physical and
psychological problems due to brain damage. In the early days of
treatment, we are looked after by our hospitals, doctors and
nurses, followed up by Social Services and physiotherapy, but what happens when
this treatment and care ceases?
The burden of care now rests
with the patient's family, but the sufferer is often incapable
of work and must retire. Quite apart from any financial
problems, and the minefield of paperwork and digging for
information through the benefits system, the Stroke victim now
finds he/she has a great deal of time on their hands for which
they are totally unprepared. There are only so many books
you can read, little odd jobs around the house to be done etc. This brings me to the
purpose of this article.
There are I am sure, many
people in the village who would appreciate meeting with other
sufferers to share information on all the problems encountered
by this life changing medical problem.
All you other "high
blood pressure" sufferers out there - and
you know who you are. Change your lifestyle now, before one day
you find yourself "surviving a stroke" that's if
you're lucky like me.
