 Leven Local History Group

Now with over 30 members, the Leven Local History Group meet on the first Monday of the month at the Leven Recreation Hall.

Their first meeting was held in February 2008 and following initial encouragement and advice from Sue Fraser, many members are now enjoying researching their chosen aspect of local history.

The monthly meetings have been well attended and there have been some interesting speakers.

Steady progress has been made covering a wide variety of subjects - Some of our members have been looking at the development of Leven Village Stores, another member is researching village chapels, another has been looking into the stories behind the names on the War Memorial and others are working on subjects from ghost stories to canal tragedies, and there is also an ongoing debate about the location of one of the villages mills.

Plans are in hand to put on a village exhibition - around May 4th 2009, but his is still to be confirmed.

The group currently have around 60 old photo's of the village but are on the lookout for more in order to put together a 'past and present' series.

New members are always welcome - for more details, Joyce at the Post Office will be able to help.
