 Parish Paths...

The following walk details are taken from the 'Walks around the Parish of Leven'  leaflet. This leaflet is funded and produced by the Leven Parish Council, and is available from the Post Office, Library and local shops.

 

 

 

Circular Walk One

Starting at the Hare & Hounds public house, walk down West Street, over Causeway Bridge and up over Harrison Hill until you reach a T-junction. Turn right (signposted Heigholme).

 

Walk along Heigholme Lane until you reach Heigholme Hall and walk through the grounds until you come to another T-junction. Follow the signposts to Burshill. You then come to another T-junction signposted left to River Hull and right to Brandesburton. Follow the road to the right and walk along until you come to the old gravel pits.  

 

Follow this route up to Starcarr Hill. Turn right and follow the road back to Leven, eventually bringing you back to the Hare & Hounds. Approximately 5 1/2 miles.

 

 

Circular Walk Two

Again, starting at the Hare & Hounds public house, walk down West Street, over Causeway Bridge, and up over Harrison Hill until you reach a T- junction. Turn right, (signposted Heigholme). 

 

Walk along Heigholme Lane until you reach Heigholme Hall and walk through the grounds until you come to another T-junction. This time, follow the signposts to Baswick. This will eventually bring you to the River Hull. Turn left onto the river bank and walk along until you reach Leven Canal. 

 

Follow the canal back to Sandholme Bridge. Turn left down Carr Lane until you come to a T-junction. Turn right into West Street and follow the road back to the Hare & Hounds public house. This walk is estimated at 7 miles.

 

 

 

Circular Walk Three

A 1 1/2 mile walk, starting from the New Inn on South Street. Walk down the public footpath towards Canal bank and follow the Canal to Sandholme Bridge, then turn left over the bridge onto Sandholme Lane and continue past the holiday chalets. 

    

Follow the road to the left onto Far Carr Lane and veer left at the next corner, (the right hand road is a private road) and follow the lane down to the culvert bridge, then turn left. 

   

Continue along the track to the garage. Turn left onto South Street and continue up to the New Inn.

 

 

 

Circular Walk Four

Take the road opposite the New Inn, High Stile, past the Old Schoolhouse Restaurant and turn left onto East Street. Approximately 20 yards down, turn right at the public footpath sign and down the side of the cottage. 

  

Through the first kissing gate, go diagonally across the small paddock to the second gate, cross the drive, and climb over the stile over the second drive and through the hand-gate.  Turn right up the field side. Turn left at the end of the field and cross the main road, turn right towards Brandesburton. 

 

On reaching the public footpath sign, turn left and follow the signs until you encounter a minor road. Turn left, following this road to a T-junction, turn left, over a small brick bridge, turn right into Carr Lane. Follow the road to canal bridge, turn left up the tow path and follow to the end, arriving back at the New Inn. The walk is approximately 4 1/2 miles.
