 Recreation Hall...

The Hall has been in the village for over 80 years. It is a typical village hall and a very important part of the community, being host to many of the villages' activities including parties, meetings, weddings etc.

The 'tin shed' (as it is affectionately known) has seen substantial refurbishment over the years and has been awarded prizes for the work undertaken. It can safely accommodate 100 people and is wheelchair friendly.

The Hall is available for hire to Leven residents for clubs, societies or family gatherings.

Room Bookings can be secured by phoning the hall caretaker, Pauline MacIntyre on 01964 543 295.

History of the Hall

In 1918, when soldiers returned from the First World War, a local landowner donated land for a hall for the use of these lads and other people in the village. Leven Recreation Hall was opened in 1921.

We thought we knew the Recreation Hall's  history, but did we?

We had been told that the Hall was brought from the Westwood in about 1921, but not a lot more. It has come to light that prior to WW1 there was an aerodrome on the Westwood.

When we looked at surviving pictures of the RFC Station, we thought the buildings looked remarkably like the Recreation Hall.  Tony Fairhurst from Beverley is researching if the Westwood was indeed the first site of the Hall.
