History of the Hall
In 1918, when soldiers returned
from the First World War, a local landowner donated land
for a hall for the use of these lads and other people in
the village. Leven Recreation Hall was opened in 1921.
We thought we knew the Recreation
Hall's history, but did we?
We had been told that the Hall was
brought from the Westwood in about 1921, but not a lot
more. It has come to light that prior to WW1 there was
an aerodrome on the Westwood.
When we looked at surviving
pictures of the RFC Station, we thought the buildings
looked remarkably like the Recreation Hall. Tony
Fairhurst from Beverley is researching if the Westwood
was indeed the first site of the Hall.
